The Kent Rural Scholarship scheme has been running since 2016 and is designed to support students from Kent who are looking to study agriculture or land-based subjects at university. Scholars are awarded a bursary of £1000 per year for up to three years of their course, with up to 9 students receiving the scholarship at any one time.
The Kent Rural Scholarship Scheme is run by the Kent County Agricultural Society as part of its charitable objectives to support and promote agriculture in Kent. By supporting the next generation in entering the rural workforce, the Society aims to encourage and promote opportunities for young people with a passion for farming, livestock, horticulture and the countryside.
To be eligible to receive the Scholarship, applicants must be:
- A resident of Kent at the time they apply for the scholarship
- Aged 18 to 25 when they commence study on the course
- Aiming to study for a full-time college or university degree-based course in one of the following subjects: agriculture, horticulture, equine, veterinary and animal management, or environment and conservation.
So far, 26 students have received funding from the Kent Rural Scholarship to support their studies in agriculture, animal science and veterinary medicine.
